Kay, the (self-proclaimed) Great Thief (of TRUTH), became a tag-along of Edgeworth's ever since she met him as a young kit, and she often helps him with investigations.
And yes, while she claims to be a thief, she hasn't actually stolen anything yet. Doesn't mean she hasn't learned how to ninja her way around places like a thief, though. The whole thieving thing actually came from her father, as that was his motif to steal truth. Like father, like daughter.
